Training does two things here and only one of them is on the scale.

Pet owner bonus of training: my dog is also losing weight because we're walking 2-3x more than before. His vet is thrilled. 🐕

We went from a 10-minute shuffle around the block to 45-minute walks through the neighborhood. He's more energetic, I'm more energetic, and we're both healthier.

Get a dog. Or borrow one. Walking a dog is the best low-impact exercise motivation that exists. They never let you skip a walk. 🐾

One thing that is still open after PharmacoVig_BOS’s answer:

What did you change at the same time, and can you separate the two now?

Coming at HPLC_Greg’s question from a different direction. Start from the measurement rather than the conclusion. Almost every disagreement here turns out to be two people measuring different things and comparing the numbers anyway.

Closing the loop on my own question.

Update, and it is the boring outcome: nothing was wrong. The measurement I was reading had moved less than its own week-to-week variation, which somebody said upthread and I did not believe.

True, with the qualification that this is a self-selected group. The people for whom it did not work post less, and that shapes everything we think we know.
