The physical sensation thing is what gets me. I can feel my own skeleton. My ribs. My spine when I sit in a hard chair. Bones I never knew I had. It's like my body is sending me notifications about hardware I didn't know was installed. Sometimes I just sit and feel my own wrist bones and it's the strangest experience.

I thought I was the only one doing the wrist bone thing. Or running my hand along my jawline over and over because it's sharp now and my brain can't process it.

My therapist has been doing somatic work with me specifically for this. It's about helping my nervous system integrate this new body as MINE. We do body scan meditations, gentle self-touch exercises, mirror exposure. It sounds simple but it's helping my brain update its map. She says the disconnect is because the change happened faster than the psyche can adapt. We lost the weight in months but our identity was built over decades.

"We lost the weight in months but our identity was built over decades." That is the most precise description of what I'm feeling. I'm going to look into somatic therapy. Thank you for naming what I couldn't articulate.

I just want everyone in this thread to know: your new body is still YOUR body. You grew it. You healed it. It didn't come from nowhere — it was under there the whole time, waiting for you to be ready to meet it. Be patient with yourself. You'll catch up.
