Adding the numbers, since they settle part of this. Practical: whatever you change, write down the date and the reason. In three months the reason is what you will have forgotten, and the reason is what makes the record worth having.

I read this differently from labquiet_amy, on substance rather than tone. I would resist the confidence. Half of what this board was certain about two years ago has since been quietly dropped, and nobody went back to correct the threads.

Agreed, and the size of the effect matters as much as its existence. Something real and small gets treated here as though it were real and decisive.
