The distinction that resolves most of these threads is between what is true on average and what is true for one person.

Coming at Dr.MetabolicMD’s question from a different direction. Worth answering the question that was asked rather than the one behind it. The narrow version usually has an answer; the broad version usually does not, and answering the broad one is how a thread stops being useful.

The figures, for anyone assembling their own picture. The boring version of this is the one that works, and the boring version is: measure a baseline, change one variable, wait, measure again under the same conditions. Nobody wants that answer and it is still the answer.

A narrower follow-up, since the general answer is now clear:

Was that from a primary source or from a summary of one?

Worth saying that the confident version of this is more useful to the person writing it than to the person reading it.

Ask again with the specifics and you will get a better answer than this one.

That is right, and it stops being right at the edges. The general case is well behaved; the interesting cases in this thread are all at the boundary where the general case breaks.
