Asked to pay by a method with no recourse, by a supplier I had used twice before without being asked, which is what made me stop.

The question I want answered is how people are thinking about the trade-off between reversibility and privacy, because you cannot have both.

I would rather have one careful answer than five confident ones.

Short answer first, then the reasoning. It is worth asking what the claim would look like if it were false. If nothing would look different, it is not a claim about the world and no amount of discussion will settle it.

That is right for the common case. Whether it is right for the case being asked about depends on a detail that has not been given.

Same experience, arrived at from the opposite direction. Posting only so the count is not one.

Adding the clinical framing, because it changes how the question reads. Start from the measurement rather than the conclusion. Almost every disagreement here turns out to be two people measuring different things and comparing the numbers anyway.
